I'm having some problems using abl2 in ableton live, I am controlling abl2
with an evolution uc33e midi interface and i can tweak away happily,
however when I hit record to record a midi track of my knob twidling
nothing is being recorded to the track, the only way I can get the midi
data to write to a track is to hit record and then move the knobs on abl2
with my mouse. Can you tell me how to record the midi data that I'm
sending from my interface to abl2? I'm confused as it receives the midi
fine as I can move all the knobs using the interface, it just can't seem
to record the movements i'm making to a midi track.
I should also mention that although when I move the knobs on my midi interface, the knobs on ABL2 are moving, the little midi in LED on ABL2 is not lighting up...
Any help would be fantastic,
thanks,
Max

1st of all, this is not an ABL2 issue, rather it's an handling question for ableton live.

I suggest to not record midi-data of the knob-twiddling, just use the midi-map feature in live to map knobs to the vst parameters. Then you can record the vst automation in live.
If you really need midi and not automation, you can insert a new midi-track, set its input to your controller and its output to the track containing abl2, then you should be able to record the midi to a clip in the abl2-track.

If you don't know how to set that up, take a quick look in the ableton live manual, there's a chapter about such routings somewhere.

Hey,
I've already done all my midi mapping so the ABL2 is getting all the knobs moving nicely, the problem is when I hit record to record a take, none of the info is being recorded to the track, however as soon as I try to move one of he knobs by hand the info is immediately recorded as automation info... I just can't figure out why it will only record info from the knobs when they're moved with a mouse and not when they move as a result of me turning them with my midi interface.
Cheers for the advice,
Max
