On Josh Wink's "Higher State of Consciousness", contrary to popular belief, used a 202(101) instead of a 303 for that acid sound.

He actually used a 303 !

Of course. Come on, its very easy to make the difference between a 101 and a 303. If you cant, you should better stop making music. (if, for you, a resonant filter sound like every others resonant filters...)

I dont think there is much point emulating the 202, its a really reedy sounding synth. Its main appeal was the advanced sequencer and live tweaking of note lengths etc..
I had a 101 and a 202. I mainly used the 202 just as a sueqeuncer to CV trigger the 101. I hated the 202 sound.

Or I would use my 303 to trigger the 202 to make a nice kind of 'fifth' sound, and then have the 909 rim shot triggering the 101 step sequencer for basslines.
And the trusty old 808 was the master clock for the lot.

Resurecting old message ... Wink

About Josh Wink in "Higher state" ...

I think he used both 303 and MC-202 (or SH-101).

The pattern comes from the 303. Same pattern played on 202 via CV/Gate, and at some point in the song he mixes both of them.

A 303, even heavily distorted or/and modded, doesnt have self-oscillating filters, and in the song you can easily heard one when the sound goes into high resonance ...

So, topic is finally closed : he used both Laughing
